Lethrinops parvidens "Ntekete"

Lethrinops parvidens (old name is Lethrinops sp."microstoma gold") is living in reasonable shallow water above the sandy bottoms of the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. Mainly they can be found in the southeastern part of the lake a.o. near Ntekete in the Malawian part but also near N'kolongwe in Mozambique and on the western coast near Nkhata Bay. They are very similar with Lethrinops microstoma with whom they live together but because of the yellow blaze on the head of the males, which is not present on Lethrinops microstoma, it's very easy to keep them apart. These examples were found in the neighbourhood of Ntekete.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 15 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 17 cm, females grow to about 13 cm.

Lethrinops parvidens is searching the sand for food and lives mainly of the invertebrates they find in the sand after jigging this. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments.

In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
